You guys… I’m so thrilled to announce that Shawn and I are engaged! We planned a last minute, much needed vacation in Florida last month where he proposed to me on that pretty little beach right there. It was a complete surprise to me and after 8 years together, I was sure I’d sense the moment it would happen. But my clever, sneaky and romantic fiancé, pulled it off in the most amazing way. It was perfect. Just us, the sun, the sand and the waves (and maybe a piña colada or two).
I decided to take a bit of time off from blogging to spend some time outside of work to enjoy this time and each other. And it has been refreshing in the best way possible. I also took some time to focus on another fun little project I’ve been working on that I can’t wait to share with you all! That’s all you’re getting out of me.
In the meantime, I hope you’ll follow along my wedding planning journey. I work with lots of fabulous vendors daily at Style Me Pretty, so if you’re also recently engaged and have any questions, feel free to get in touch with me. And don’t forget to take a peek at my wedding board on Pinterest for more inspiration!

It was a short, busy week, hence my lack of posting, so I thought I’d pop on today to say hello! Lots of fun and amazing things happening on SMP, including our upcoming Fashion + Beauty e-zine for Fall 2013, I can’t wait! And then all kinds of fabulousness that’s always happening on SMP Living, take a sec to check it out.
So, instead of overloading myself with more blogging at night this week, I’ve been doing a bit of reading each night to unwind from the day. My absolute favorite book (more like guide actually) this summer has been Jessica Alba’s The Honest Life. Setting aside that she’s just plain gorg and one of my favorite actresses, I’ve been SO inspired by her healthy (but not health nutty!) approach to life. When The Honest Co. launched back in 2012, I sort of stashed it away for when I have babies of my own. The little skull diapers alone are freaking adorable, but mostly, it got me to thinking how eco-friendly products can be cute and stylish while staying safe too. Since picking up the book a couple of months ago, I realized that I can start incorporating these ideas and products into my home, before I have kids. We’re not planning on bringing any little dudes or ladies into this world for another couple of years, but why not create a safe and healthy environment for us to live in now? So that’s exactly what I’m trying to do, step by step, and this book is exactly the motivation I need right now. There’s even a section on party planning, my favorite section, of course!
If you’re in the same boat and trying to create a healthier lifestyle (whether you have kids or not), you might want to pick up a copy for yourself. It’s real, down to earth, approachable ways to achieve a healthier habits from food to home and beauty to style. I’ve also picked up a few of The Honest Co. products to try out, so I’ll let you know how that goes! What are some ways you approach a healthy lifestyle without being too rigid? I’d love to hear what’s been working for you, whether its nutrition, exercise, the products you use in your home, etc.!
I’m going to keep this one short and sweet today. Are you all excited for a three day weekend of relaxation? I am! We’re heading up to Lake Winnipesaukee where I plan on floating with a cocktail in hand all. weekend. long. Happy LDW!

It’s so easy to get caught up in life (yes, I’m gonna get deep on you today). Our homes, career, status, style, health, family, friends… and trying to make it look like a breeze while we balance it all. The ‘want’ to fill our homes, closets and garages with nice
designer, luxury things, that usually cost way too much money for our budgets. As women, making sure we’re always ‘stylish’ when we walk out the door. Exercising, eating right, feeling like we’ve got to put something fancy on the table every night for dinner. Overlooking the most important people in our lives. Having a ‘successful’ career (what does that mean to you?). Always. wanting. more. and never feeling like you have enough time to do. it. all.
I think we’re all there at one point or another, we let people get the best of us, we’re pressured to be someone we’re not and we overlook what’s really truly important way too often. Jealousy plays a big part in the pressure to be it all and have it all. This post from The Everygirl really made me think about being thankful for what I DO have and over the last week or so, I’ve tried to focus on what’s important to me. So this morning, I took a few minutes this morning to write down a few simple things that I’m thankful for so I’ll be reminded of it more often. Take a look around this weekend, what do you overlook? What are you thankful for? Write it down, I’d love to hear the little things that make you feel blessed!
Have a WONDERFUL weekend everyone! xo, Melissa

I had a fun little cocktail prepared for y’all today but we’re going to be sharing it on SMP Living soon, so this week’s Happy Hour is on hold! Instead, may I suggest this tasty treat from my gal Jacquelyn over at Lark & Linen. SO yum.
Do you guys have fun weekend plans? Shawn is going tuna fishing, yet again (*fingers crossed he catches something before the summer is out*) and I’ll be working on a few projects around the house, shooting some fun things for the blog, maybe grabbing lunch in Marblehead tomorrow and hitting up a few of the small shops in old town, including my fave, Bobbles & Lace! I’d love to hear what you’re all up to. What will you be crossing off your summer to-do’s this weekend? xo Melissa
