Setting a Pretty Table

Oh, I love a pretty tablescape, I do. Pulling a whole table together cohesively and tying it into an event can be a tough thing to do, just ask any event planner out there! But I don’t think a wedding should be the only excuse to fancy up a table. It’s a personal touch that your guests will love for a simple dinner party, brunch or gathering at your home. Here are a few favorite tablescapes of mine and a few tips on how you can pull this off yourself!

table1

Pull color from your florals. Don’t have a design direction or color palette yet? Start with your blooms. Even if you have your florist do up one simple arrangement, pull from those colors. (Have your florist show you which flowers they’ll be including in your arrangement beforehand so you have time to plan the rest!) Make sure to keep some items neutral. If your going with a patterned runner and colorful glasses, go neutral with the chargers, plates and linens.

Consider your setting. Having an outdoor soiree? Backyard BBQ? Or a more formal indoor dinner? Keep in mind how your guests will be interacting and the space that you have to work with. For ex: Light a few candles if you’re taking your party outdoors. Lighting is key to creating a cozy atmosphere.

Personalize and don’t be afraid to DIY! Place cards will make your guests feel so welcomed, like you planned this party just for them (which you did, of course!). You don’t have to be a designer to be crafty. Get a cute free font and create some simple name cards. Plus, it makes seating much smoother and you won’t have guests fumbling to figure out the best spot to sit.

Make sure everything is in place. Really, it’s your party and you can do what you want to! But if you want to know where the wine glass is supposed to go and which order your silverware should be, check out this cute little guide from Antiquaria.

Let your food take center stage. Consider using items that make sense with what your main course or theme will be. I love this mini artichoke on the plate for a Mediterranean theme. Or, set a pretty peach atop a plate for summer soiree. Think about what’s in season. Are you serving up crostini’s with homemade jam for an appetizer? Why not put little jam favors on the table for each guest!
